The Ukrainian city Mykolaiv is known as a great city of shipbuilders with a glorious past. In 1788 Grigory Potemkin, the great Russian statesman and general, ordered to build in this very place a dockyard which gradually turned into a large city. The dockyard and the settlement was called after the famous battle that the Russian army won in 1788 when they took the Turkish fortress Ochakov. This glorious event happened on the day of Saint Nikolay (Mykolay in Ukrainian), who is considered to be the patron saint of all the sailors. The first ship built in the Mykolaiv dockyard was a 46-cannon frigate. It was finished by 1790 and given the grand name of Saint Nikolay. That is the story how Mykolaiv got its mission and purpose – the construction of large war ships. For a long time Mykolaiv was the base of the Black See Fleet.


Nowadays Mykolaiv is a large industrial, business, political and cultural center of Southern Ukraine with the population of around 500,000 people. Reikartz River Mykolaiv opens summer recreation area

July, 30 2011 Reikartz River Mykolaiv staged the long-awaited opening of its modern pool area.

The pleasant occasion gathered numerous guests who were traditionally warmly welcomed in the Stargorod restaurant.

The new recreation area - open 24 hours and able to hold 200 people - is meant both for the hotel and the restaurant guests. It is equipped with three swimming pools, comfortable deckchairs, gazebos, an ample children playground and a pier with tables and parasols.

Our guests have a splendid opportunity to relax listening to the lounge music and choose a cocktail from a special menu. Exclusively for you, the Stargorod restaurant has prepared a beach cocktail list, as well as an open kitchen with a genuine Italian pizza. You can also choose your favorite dishes on the restaurant regular menu.

In the evening all the guests are cordially invited to enjoy exciting variety programs. Every Thursday evening the recreation area will host breathtaking foam parties.

Reikartz recreation area is situated near the famous Mykolaiv yachting club. The embankment is the best place for picturesque views of white sails and spectacular sunsets.

WHAT TO SEE

Yacht Club

Yacht Club is a favourite recreation place for the citizens of Mykolaiv – especially for those who enjoy yachting. The club itself was established in 1887, and the building which is still here was built in 1904 in Late Renaissance style. The Mykolaiv Zoo is considered to be one of the best in Ukraine and is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). Here you will meet more than 4 000 animals of about 370 species, carefully preserved and looked after. Many of the animals that live here are included into the Red List of Threatened Species. On the Zoo’s territory there also is a house for domestic animals called Dedova Hata (The Grandpa’s house).
